KALAGNY's 2016-17 Mentorship Program
The Korean American Lawyers Association of Greater New York ("KALAGNY") is pleased to announce its 2016-2017 KALAGNY Mentorship Program. This will be the eighth annual edition of this program, and it has become a model for several similar programs around the United States.
KALAGNY is seeking practicing attorneys who graduated from law school in 2012 or earlier to join as mentors and offer their wisdom and experience to our law student and less experienced attorney members. All current law student
members and attorneys who graduated from law school in 2013 or later are invited to sign up as mentees. All participants must be dues-paying members of KALAGNY in good standing. Please keep posted regarding KALAGNY's other events.
Register here to join the program. (You will be directed to the membership section of our website, which is only accessible to dues paid members.)
The Mentorship Program has steadily grown each year since its inception, from about 55 participants in 2009-2010 to nearly 170 participants in 2013-2014. Our mentors include judges, prosecutors, in-house attorneys, public interest attorneys, lawyers from large, medium and small firms and solo practitioners. Our mentees have included law students from every law school in the Greater New York area and young attorneys in a variety of practices.
Our Philosophy and Approach
Our program is designed to provide law students and new attorneys access to a broad network of attorneys who have volunteered their time to share their wisdom and insight into the day to day practice of law and broader career issues
The program includes both formal and informal events throughout the year to foster the mentoring relationship and to help participants get to know one another. These include a formal reception, a KALAGNY-subsidized dinner for
each group, a picnic, and a resume and interviewing workshop. We also strongly encourage our mentors and mentees to set up their own meetings and to stay in touch by email, telephone, and in person.
